Artifacts that Support Teacher and Student Growth
The artifacts that are below are several examples of work I have done during the 2013-2014 school year to help support teachers and students in the learning process.
Artifact 1: Distance Ed Training
Example Artifact: Moodle Course
This will have be the first year the FNSBSD has provided distance delivery support for helping teachers to gain the necessary skills for using the videoconference technology. The course was split between summer and fall giving teachers time to produce their moodle class that was used in conjunction with their videconference lessons. In addition the course focused on providing specific skills for using the equipment, how to manage classes and finally how to use best practices when using distance delivery tools. As of this year, many of the distance delivery teachers have said that they feel well prepared for teaching using distance delivery, which is a positive indication that the initial professional development was impart successful.

Artifact 2: Career Island
Example Artifact: Website
This project was initially designed as joint idea during a CTE PLC videoconference. I am very interested in gamification and I shared the possibilities with the teachers and out of it came an idea for sustaining an island based on the knowledge they gain for the different career clusters. Once students gain some knowledge they produce products to demonstrate that knowledge (their choice) and as a result they earn badges and superbadges. These badges indicate support for their island and changes in their population. Each week students are faced with natural and man-made disasters that they have to use their research to protect the populations on their island. Many teachers have reported that the game has encouraged students to learn more about the career clusters, and in more depth. They are having discussions, working together as partners to predict, solve problems and produce products. This project has shown the teachers how real collaboration can be done to create more rich learning experiences for their students.

Artifact 3: Google Forms Lesson
Example Artifact: How to Setup Google Forms
Throughout the year I have many projects and activities that I get involved but do not really require a lesson. For example, I often attend many PLC's or staff meetings to help teachers learn more about technology and how best they can utilize it in their classrooms. This particular artifact is one of those cases. I was asked to come in and do a specific lesson on Google Forms, as part of a team. Each member of the team was in charge of a particular part of Google Apps based on the skill level of the teachers. So it was my job to help the advanced teachers with Google Forms and Flubaroo. However, that day I was out at BEH, and when I went to leave to get to the school for the presentation, the base was on lockdown. So I had to turn around head back to the school and run the lesson through videoconference. Because I am very familiar and comfortable with the tools, it was a great opportunity to show them off to the teachers so they could be exposed to the possibility of using them. It was a true teachable moment. In addition the lesson was well received and the teachers were positive about using the tool in their classroom as a means of formative assessment, helping to get results back to students in a faster more effective process.

Artifact 4: Technology Levels for Professional Development Game
Example Artifact: Web Page
I have included this additional artifact because it demonstrates the beginnings of an idea building process to implement a project. This particular project entails the use of game design elements to encourage teachers to attain professional development of their own accord throughout the year. The reason I have included this one is because it really exemplifies the additional time that ITT's use to produce new content and skills for teachers. In particular this project would provide impact across the board for a variety of teachers, as well as helping them to understand the necessary skills needed today to be a 21st century teacher. Not to mention that is aligned with Iste NETS for teachers.
Artifact 5: Apple TV in the Classroom
Example Artifact: Google Presentation
This presentation was initially designed to support a librarian helping to encourage her staff to use Apple TV's in their classrooms. But as I was creating it, I realized it was a presentation that could be used at a variety of schools during staff meetings or PLC's. This artifact demonstrates the use of technology in the classroom to help teachers grasp the idea of using tools to teach with to help improve the efficiency of the classroom.
Artifact 6: Distance Ed Support
Example Artifact 1: How to turn in assignments from Notability on the iPad
Example Artifact 2: How to make a connection using the Videoconference Equipment
Throughout the year, I have been working closely with the distance delivery teachers to support them and their students utilizing the technology that they have available to them, specifically the iPads and the videoconference equipment. The skills that they gain by taking these classes will most likely be used in college or future careers as their skills will be transferable working between mobile tools and videoconference tools. These two artifacts show how I was able to support students to use their Notability app to turn in assignments and the second artifact was used to help any teachers using the videoconference equipment to make a connection using it.
