Exemplary Technology Lessons
Below are list of Exemplary Lesson Plans that I have created for the 2013-2014 school year to help teachers and students use technology.
Lesson 1: Arctic Winter Games Banners
Lesson: AWG Photoshop Lesson
Support Document 1: Photoshop to Indesign
Support Document 2: Photoshop How-to
This lesson was designed to help teachers and students create a banner for the Arctic Winter Games using Photoshop and Indesign. This lesson was provided to art teachers and computer technology teachers in grades 6-12. This had an impact on teachers because many of the art teachers were unfamiliar with using Photoshop, but recognized it's value in art. And it was great for the computer teachers who needed just a refresher on the applications. The students were in turn provided a very powerful lesson opportunity in production and design, with considerations for possible careers in the field of design and production. In addition students can utilize their skills to produce products for other classes. Most importantly, the students work can be displayed in public spaces, as is the case for those that won the 2014 AWG Banner Contest.
Lesson 2: Changing your Environment Photoshop Lesson
Lesson: Change your Background
Support Document 1: Photoshop Document Guide 1
This lesson was designed for students to get a better understanding of using Photoshop. The goal of the lesson was for students to take an image with themselves in the image and change the background. This was an important lesson because many careers use Adobe products to create marketing materials. Furthermore, it provides students and teachers with the necessary skills to use in other course work, as well as their future profession. The impact the lesson had on the teachers was that it provided them the additional training they needed to utilize the software in their classroom on a regular basis. For students, the impact was around using a professional application to produce a professional product, allowing them to then use their new skills in other adobe products.
Lesson 3: Google Site and Blogger Portfolio's
Lesson: Setting up Google Sites and Blogger
Support Document 1: How to link Google Sites and Blogger
Support Document 2: How to setup Blogger
Support Document 3: How to setup Sites
This lesson was used several times this year with many of the CTE teachers. After introducing them to Google Apps, they decided that helping students in Work Based Learning to be able to produce digital resume portfolios was beneficial to the primary goals of WBL. Furthermore this provided students the opportunity to gain the skills for web-design, as well as blogging, both of which are skills widely used today as marketing tools for persons looking for jobs or highlighting their skills in a current position. For teachers, they also gained the skills so they could create their own teacher sites that can turn their classroom into a paperless digital classroom. In addition they were exposed to the concept of blogging to share their teaching ideas and skills of their profession back into the professional community.
